Senior Project Source Paper Guidelines                                                                     Miss Hill

Name:  _____________________________________                      Date:  ________________

To prepare you for the writing of the paper aspect of your Senior Project, you will be completing 3 source papers.  Each of these papers will be based on 1 – 2 of your text-based sources.  There will be 3 sections to your paper.

1.  Heading:  This section will include your name, the date, your block, the source paper number (1, 2, or

3), and the complete correct citation for your source(s).  This should be a heading format with a listing of your citations below.

Example of Heading for Source Paper:

Senior Project Source Paper 1                                                                                              Lara Hill

Block 2                                                                                                                                    11/30/2001

Gardner, Howard. Frames of Mind: The Theory of Multiple Intelligences (10th Anniversary Edition). NY: Basic Books, 1993.

2.  Summary:  In this section, summarize the information from the source.  Your summary will give the reader the overall “flavor” of the source.  The summary should also include paraphrases and quotes with parenthetical citations.  Be picky in this section with respect to your choice of quotes.  The quotes should be something that you cannot put into your own words without losing the “flavor” or impact of the text.

3.  Connections:  The last section is where you and the writer “converse.”  In this section you will interact with the author of the source through your words and his or her words.  Write about how this material helps you with your question by addressing the specific information.  Add the questions that arise as you read the author’s work.  Where does the information you gained lead you?

Format:  Overall, the “Summary” and “Connections” should be about 1 ½ pages to 2 pages.  Your text should be double-spaced, 12 point font, with 1 inch margins all around.  For your sake, make sure you save this text in a safe spot that you can access again.  Otherwise, if you want to use the information you wrote in your Research Paper you will have to retype it.

Late Policy:  I hate to be an ogre, but if I am going to give you time in class to work on your reading, note taking, and such, it seems only fair to penalize you more harshly for being late.  With that in mind, for every school day you are late, you will loose 10 points – not 10%, but 10 points.

Grading:  Each paper will be worth 60 points.  They will be graded based on your content and your ability to follow directions.  I will be using a checklist to make sure that all items are included correctly.
